Why was Bluerock Valuation founded?

Prior to founding Bluerock Valuation, Andy Clausen was a manager at RSM US LLP, the fifth-largest public accounting firm in the U.S. He primarily collaborated with the assurance group serving as a qualified expert providing guidance on externally-prepared financial reporting valuations. While at RSM he critiqued approximately 350-450 externally prepared valuations and realized that too many firms were struggling to prepare acceptable valuations in a timely and cost-effective manner. Therefore, with the knowledge he acquired regarding the financial reporting valuation review process, he decided to change sides and prepare credible valuations that make life easier for controllers, financial reporting executives, and audit teams.

Professional Experience

Andy Clausen is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA-BV/IA), certified in business valuation and intangible asset valuation, and is one of the first recipients of the new Certified in Entity and Intangible Valuations™ (CEIV™) credential. Andy has 15 years of experience with broad industry exposure to middle-market, small businesses, and public companies. “My favorite part of the profession is the challenges it provides,” says Andy. “Valuation can be like a puzzle and it’s very rewarding when all the pieces fit together. That means I understand what a client truly needs and am able to provide them with value-added, preeminent advice. On top of that, I strive to produce timely, supportable valuations while staying within the right scope for those needs.” Andy’s number one priority is to produce a high-quality product that saves everyone review time. He conducts business valuations for a variety of purposes including federal gift and estate tax, marital dissolution, estate planning, buy/sell agreements, ASC 805 (Business Combinations), ASC 350 (Goodwill Impairment Testing), and mergers and acquisitions. He also performs machinery & equipment (M&E/PP&E) valuations for financial reporting purposes. Prior to starting Bluerock Valuation Services, Andy worked for a large multinational accounting firm where he completed valuations of minority and controlling interests in closely-held businesses and public companies as well as valuations for a variety of purposes including purchase price allocations, mergers and acquisitions, strategic financial planning, shareholder disputes, litigation, and other financial reporting purposes.
